Modern high-rise buildings have central heating. But there are also country houses heated by various types of stoves, which use wood, coal and other fuels to produce heat. Author’s custom-made tiled stoves look beautiful and authentic. This stove will fill your home with comfort.

Fuel consumption depends on the design of the furnace and on the good condition of all its parts: furnace, pipes and chimney. Therefore, we consider it useful to talk about the repair of the furnace. Of course, it is better to entrust this matter to professionals, but at least theoretical knowledge will not hurt.

Causes of oven failure

Only a specialist can fold the oven, but some defects that have arisen can be eliminated with your own hands. Often the stove has to be repaired when, due to soot deposits in the chimney, the draft becomes poor and the stove begins to smoke. Thick soot deposits

  • reduce the heat transfer of the furnace;

  • lead to excessive fuel consumption;

  • and even start a fire.

Therefore, periodically you need to clean the firebox and chimney. This is done using a chain or pole with a rag, as well as chemicals that burn with the fuel, while absorbing most of the soot. One of these substances is rock salt.

If smoke appeared with the onset of cold weather, this means that the walls of the chimneys are thin, they become damp and freeze. To eliminate this drawback, it is necessary to plaster the pipe, increasing the thickness of its walls.

Slots and cracks on the surface of the chimney also lead to smoke, since cold air, penetrating into the slot, does not participate in the combustion process, but takes away heat, interfering with sufficient traction. To eliminate cracks in the stove masonry, carefully prepared clay mortar is used. To make the solution more elastic, pre-shredded asbestos fiber is added to it. Moreover, a solution with asbestos is used to strengthen the furnace door, and an ordinary clay solution is made for the view doors.

Solution preparation

To prepare a clay solution, take 1 part of clay and 1 or 2 parts of sand. A properly prepared mortar should not be too thick so that it does not crack after drying, or too thin to firmly bind the bricks together.

To prepare a clay solution with asbestos, take 1 part of clay, 1 part of cement, 2 parts of sand and 0.1 part of asbestos. Sand, cement and asbestos are mixed together, then combined with clay diluted to the consistency of sour cream. If during the repair of the furnace it is necessary to replace the damaged sections of the brick of the lower horizontal masonry, then proceed as follows: remove the damaged brick, clean the vacated area and wet it with water, then put the mortar on the horizontal surface of the masonry and put a new brick. If you need to fill the upper vertical section, then the solution is applied to a brick previously moistened with water, then inserted into the masonry.

If a large number of vertical cracks appear on the chimney, you need to tighten the broken parts with wire. Make several deep horizontal grooves with a chisel from corner to corner, wind soft iron wire around them. Then twist in several places using a regular nail, and cover the grooves with clay mortar. When the mortar dries, heat the stove and plaster the patched areas over the hot surface with clay mortar with asbestos.

Typically, kilns are whitewashed using a chalk or lime mortar diluted with skim milk or water with common salt dissolved in it so that the applied layer is not contaminated. To avoid yellow plaque, blue can be added to the solution. Cover the oven with this solution in at least 2 or 3 coats.
