Infrared heaters in questions and answers

[ad_1]

Stanislav: Why is it best to buy infrared heaters with a heat-radiating plate for an apartment? After all, they are less powerful than quartz tubes.

Of course, the quartz tube creates the most powerful heat flow. Its efficiency exceeds the useful effect of other types of heaters by 5%, and the heating temperature of the filament spiral is much higher than 600 ° C.

On the other hand, such a high heating power sometimes creates uncomfortable sensations, especially if the heater is located close to a person. A heat flux directed at a person, similar to the rays of a scorching summer sun, leads to overheating and dizziness. The installation of quartz heaters as a result becomes strictly regulated — at a height of more than two meters or on a rotating structure. Therefore, regardless of the power of quartz devices, they are used, as a rule, on shawarma braziers. In addition, after the service life of the quartz tube (about a year) has expired, it will need to be replaced, and most of the cost of the heater itself will be spent on the purchase of the desired element.

The heat radiating plate has a long service life. It is not as powerful as a quartz tube, and the highest heating temperature reaches 300°C. But infrared heaters are considered fireproof and highly environmentally friendly. They make the air in the room clean and fresh. And even their inherent low crackle (due to the difference in the coefficients of expansion of steel and aluminum) is used as a popular effect of crackling firewood in the fireplace. Also worth noting is their unusual heating rate. An infrared heater on a heat-radiating plate warms up the air in the room more slowly than quartz devices, but after a short getting used to it, their soft, unobtrusive heat becomes part of a comfortable microclimate in the room.

Igor: Are infrared heaters good for health?

By itself, infrared radiation is considered completely safe for humans, sometimes even improving their overall well-being. Infrared rays are the most natural natural source of heat, a prime example of which is our Sun. And such a device, familiar from Soviet life, as a reflector, should not cause any fears and doubts about its harmlessness.

On the other hand, when operating any heating device, certain precautions should be observed. After all, even infrared heaters for domestic purposes can cause discomfort if they are used incorrectly.

So, do not violate the rules for installing long-wave emitters. Although they are relatively harmless devices, they must be installed as high as possible from the irradiated surface — the radiation intensity is inversely proportional to the distance to the surface.

It should also be remembered that diesel and gas infrared heaters can only be installed in open areas in the fresh air.

And in any case, if discomfort occurs near the infrared heater, you should immediately lower its power level, or initially buy several heaters of lower power.

Igor: How do gas infrared heaters differ from electric ones?

Gas and electric infrared heaters differ in scope, internal design and cost.

Gas heaters, like diesel ones, are ideal for heating open spaces — various sports fields, park areas, summer cafes, warehouses and other places where there is constant air circulation. In gas devices, energy is released after the air-propane mixture is ignited by a piezoelectric element. In appearance, gas infrared heaters resemble a large street lamp, in the cylindrical base of which there is a source of gas, and at the top there is an injection burner. Radiated waves are capable of heating a room area of up to 25 square meters, the efficiency reaches 85%, but the cost of such infrared heaters is quite high.

Infrared heater is the best solution for residential apartments and administrative premises. The source of radiation in this case is a filament coil, which is enclosed in a base and can heat up to 900 degrees Celsius. In most cases, heating of apartments and medical institutions uses electric heaters with a heating coil hidden in a metal case or ceramic shell. The service life of such devices exceeds 3 years. Unlike cheaper electric heaters with a filament located inside a quartz tube, they do not have a red glow that is unpleasant to the eye.

Zhenya: What should you pay attention to in the internal structure of an infrared heater, if you choose it yourself?

The thickness of the anodizing layer on the metal plate must be equal to or greater than 25 micrometers, since only this thickness will allow the infrared heater to work for more than 20 years. If the parameter is lower, the radiant plate will burn out after 3 years, and the heater will become faulty.

The metal from which the heating element is made affects the scope of the heater itself. If ordinary ferrous metal is used instead of stainless steel, then this infrared heater can only be placed in dry rooms, which do not include a garage, a country house or a balcony.

The inner surface of the metal housing must be unpainted and without any traces of corrosion. If there are traces of rust on the metal, it means that the body was originally painted over rusty metal, and after a few years the rust will appear from the outside of the heater.

The thickness of the foil at the reflector must be at least 120 micrometers so that the infrared rays do not go to the ceiling, but are reflected in the right direction. If you conduct an elementary test — press the foil with a ballpoint pen, as if putting a dot on a sheet of paper, and see if a trace has appeared — you can find out the real thickness indicator. A hole or wrinkle in the foil indicates that its thickness does not exceed 100 micrometers.
