Fans are designed to direct air in the desired direction. One of their varieties is a centrifugal fan, and its scope mainly concerns one or another type of production. It differs from all other types of fans in the size and number of blades (blades), as well as in the direction of the bend.
Centrifugal fan device
All centrifugal fans consist of such components as an impeller mounted on a shaft, a spiral housing, inlet and discharge pipes.
When the gas enters the fan housing through the suction manifold, the direction of movement is changed by the working blades of the impeller and then exits the discharge pipe in the radial direction.
Types of centrifugal fans
All centrifugal fans can be divided into two large groups:
- general purpose devices;
- special purpose devices.
The main difference between them is the temperature regime. In addition, the air itself, with which you have to work, also differs.
So, a general-purpose fan is usually installed in rooms where there is no aggressive environment that can cause corrosion, and there are no sticky air compounds. The air temperature should not exceed the maximum allowable. Usually this parameter is in the range from -35 to +35°C.
If these parameters cannot be observed, or if it is an emergency system, special-purpose fans are installed. In addition to exhaust air, they also remove smoke. Differ in durability and reliability, can work in rooms with especially high temperature (up to 75 °C).
Inline centrifugal fan is used to direct air masses in round ducts of exhaust and supply ventilation systems for public, domestic, industrial or administrative premises. Such fans are ready for installation and connection, they can be installed in any position, that is, they can be adjusted to the direction of air flow.
Characteristics of centrifugal fans
What to look for when choosing such a fan? The main characteristics include the performance of centrifugal fans, their power, total pressure, fan weight, impeller speed, type and number of vibration isolators.
The characteristics of the fans are obtained by direct testing them at a constant speed. Recalculating the standard characteristics to real ones, they take into account the change in pressure and power on the shaft, which occurs in proportion to the density of the gas supplied by the fan
.
The noise characteristic of the fan does not depend much on the speed, the material of manufacture and the acoustic environment around.
Advantages of centrifugal fans:
- high pressure and high airflow power with low weight;
- low noise level;
- stable airflow;
- Ease of controls;
- the possibility of long continuous operation.
Applications of radial (centrifugal) fans:
- household appliances (air conditioners, computers, air purifiers);
- printing and weaving machines;
- cleaning equipment;
- incinerators;
- machines for oxygen cutting;
- woodworking machinery;
- extruders for plastics;
- film making machines, laminating;
- equipment for work in conditions of constant temperatures;
- dust collectors;
- grain loaders;
- fan air heaters;
- beverage production;
- equipment for the food industry;
- drying and refrigeration equipment.
